Vivekananda College of Engineering & Technology (VCET), Puttur, one of the reputed engineering colleges in the coastal region of Karnataka, was established in the year 2001 by Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha Puttur (R) with the vision of providing quality technical education to the rural parts of coastal Karnataka. Today the Institute has been identified as a centre for excellence in imparting engineering education to aspiring students from all over the country and is bringing out best academic performance from the students.

Stand out features of the institution are a sprawling campus spreading across 25 acres, well-experienced and qualified faculty, modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art laboratories, active training and placement cell, high-end computing systems with adequate software and networking, well-stocked library having subscription to National and International journals,  digital library, English language laboratory, etc. Added to the above, industry interaction is provided through industrial visits, interactive sessions with technical experts, and additional exposure is provided through the Consultancy Wing of the various departments. Apart from the regular classroom lectures, the students also have access to browse and watch on-line video clippings of expert lectures from the University, IIT or IISc. via E-Vidya and EduSat programmes on various subjects of their discipline.

The campus is surrounded by lush green scenic beauty which is away from the din of city. Discipline is maintained within the college and the hostel premises and the campus is completely free from ragging and mischief mongers. Special custom designed group insurance has been introduced for reimbursement of medical expenses and to ensure continuing education by providing coverage on course fee in case of casualty to the parent.

Free Internet facility is made available from 9 am. to 6 pm. during working days through high speed 4Mbps optical fibre leased line of BSNL. The college has Institutional membership of The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). A Student Chapter of ISTE is also functioning in the college.
